To the best of Kurzweil/Young Chang's knowledge the following information is correct as of 12/14/92:
The Quantum LPS series of drives, LPS 52, LPS 105, LPS 120, LPS 210 and LPS 240 (52, 105, 120, 210, and 240MB, respectively) have been tested and found to work properly when used internally and externally with the K2000 and K2000R. The Quantum ELS series drives, the ELS 42, ELS 85, ELS 127, and ELS 170 (42, 85, 127, and 170MB, respectively), have been tested and found to work properly when used internally and externally with the K2000 and K2000R. The Quantum LPS 52 and LPS 210 drives have been phased out of production, but all others mentioned above remain in production. The Quantum LPS 525, Pro series drives (Pro 425, Pro 1050, and Pro 1225) and the 2.5" Go Drives (Go%80, Go%120, and Go%240) have not yet been tested with the K2000 and K2000R. It is unlikely that we will support internal installation of Pro and Go series drives in the future. Pro drives will not fit in the K2000 and Go drives require special cables and may limit the length and number of devices connected to the SCSI bus.
The Conner CP3040 (40MB) and CP30100 (120MB) drives have been tested and found to work properly when used internally and externally with the K2000 and K2000R. The CP3040 has been phased out of production. The Conner 85, 170 and 212MB SCSI drives have not yet been tested with the K2000 and K2000R.
The MOST 128MB Magneto-Optical drive has been tested and found to work properly when used externally with the K2000 and K2000R. Other Magneto-Optical drives have not yet been tested with the K2000 and K2000R and are not guaranteed to work with them.
The Syquest 44 and 88MB drives have been tested and found to work properly when used externally with the K2000 and K2000R.
The Fujitsu 100MB 261x series drive has been tested and found to work properly when used internally and externally with the K2000 and K2000R. These drives require a jumper change in order to work with the K2000. The set of jumpers immediately next to the gray termination resistor block on the underside of the Fujitsu drive is called CNH1 (silk screened under all of the jumpers). The pins on these jumpers are numbered 1 to 11, and these numbers are also screened on the circuit board. The typical Factory configuration uses a jumper connecting pins 4 and 5. This jumper needs to be moved to pins 5 and 6 in order to work properly with the K2000 and K2000R.
Fujitsu has discontinued manufacture of the 261x drives and is now shipping only the 262x series of drives which include 330, 420, and 520MB models. These models have not yet been tested with the K2000 or K2000R and may consume too much power to be installed internally in the K2000.
The Seagate ST3600N 500MB drive has been tested and found to work properly when used internally in the K2000R only. This unit consumes too much power to be used internally in the K2000, but has been found to work properly when used externally with both the K2000 and K2000R.
The Insite I325 VM floptical drive mechanism has been tested and found to work when used externally with the K2000 and K2000R. We cannot recommend this device for use with the K2000 or K2000R, however. If this device is purchased for use with the K2000 or K2000R, we recommend units that feature an eject button.
The Sony and Toshiba CD ROM drives have been tested and found to work when used externally with the K2000 and K2000R.
